Wilson and his soon to be doggie roomie

A few of you know that I'm taking a Library technician diploma (shocking I know considering my poor grammar lol) and for a part of this program I have to spend a month working in a library to gain hands on experience. So what did I do? I decided to pick a library out of town. My friends that live there have offered me a room to stay in AND I can bring my Willy-billy with me. They also have a cat and a dog.

Meet Dexter, a 3 and a half year old poodle mix.

Wilson and Dexter have meet a few times before, Dexter has been over at the house and is an honorary member of the Woofle Pack- meaning whenever he's in town with his owners they come out with us to the dog park.

I foresee a lot of work considering Wilson has dog issues, but aside from Cookie I know that Dexter is the next best dog to use in regards to Wilson. Dexter just doesn't care if Wilson's barking in his face or not, he just wants to play and if Wilson doesn't want to play then he'll go off and do his own thing. I know this cause of a few times when Dexter was over at our house, aside from Wilson barking at him lots nothing else happened.

Since Wilson will be moving into Dexters home though I have been reading up on how to introduce dogs that have dog issues just in case. I figure that I would be prepared and do this the right way, because even if Dexters go with the flow at my house doesn't mean he will be in his.

Anyways, the following is what I plan on doing to make sure things go as smoothly as possible and leave both dogs with good experiences.

  • When I get there I'll take both dogs on a walk to get them reacquainted with each other on neutral ground.
  • I'll let Wilson explore the house without Dexter around so he can look about this strange new setting.
  • I plan on bringing baby gates to use to separate them so they can see, hear and smell each other but not touch.
  • Wilson will be staying in my room when I am not home, there will be no dog to dog interaction if I'm not there to supervise.
  • I plan on keeping a leash on Wilson once the baby gates are down so that way I have some control by holding onto the leash. That way if I can see a problem about to start I can pick up the leash and walk away from Dexter with Wilson. The leash will be removed if Wilson/Dexter behaves.
  • I'll remove all items that they can fight over such food or much beloved toys from the area where they will be when together.
  • And of course reward good behavior and habits from both dogs!

If you have any more suggestions for what I should do or if you think there might be a problem with one of my strategies then please let me know. Even if its a story from your experience with doggie meetings! I just want this to work out as best as possible for both dogs!

Hey, A post and a Wilson Video!!

Well I got some good news and great news and even better news for all my blog readers. Firstly our Secret Santa package has been opened and from the looks of it the items are well loved. If your interested in knowing who we bought for, what we got them and how much they loved it then click this link HERE which will take you to their blog. Secondly I AM ON MY WINTER BREAK! I now have a whole lot of time on my hands cause I'm out of school for a bit. No one wants to read about how excited I am about this but I just had to say it. This also means that I have been able to spend more time with my furry wiener dog. He loves it even more then I do!

And for the even better news..I have something to blog about besides all the snow. Heh, its great and all but I bet reading about blah blah snow this and blah blah snow that gets boring. I'm sorry....my bad... As Wilson would say BOL! So here is a mini movie of Wilson and his crazy light chasing, I hope you get some good laughs from it.
Oh and if we all get too busy this upcoming week then I just want you all to know I wish you a happy holiday time. Enjoy your fur babies, doggie pals, cat lap warmers or whatever kind of animal you may have at home!!

Wilson: Hey..hey, whatcha dooing? Can I help, look I'm helping. LOOK AT ME! *jumps all over* Jumping fun mom. See? I sure do like hoping everywhere. Hey, hello, hi! Chelsea: *attempts to ignore pupson and work on her paper*

Wilson: *sighs and lays down*

Chelsea: *Feels bad, invites the fat sausage up onto couch. Continues where she lefts off once Wilson is settled*

Wilson: Hey Hey mom, whats that on the screen? *puts head on laptop* Wooooww, look at all them words you are typing. Can I.....Can I lick them? *attempts to lick screen, screen now has dog slobber on it*

Chelsea: *grumbles* You win.

Wilson: YAY! WALKIES!

Grandma: *laughs like crazy in the background*

UniWoofity

Moms back in Uni...Univort..... Ummm... UniWoofity. (Chelsea's Note: He means University)
And all you pups, kitties and others must know how it feels when your owners go off to school, work or just plain gone. She did work full time before but schools different, there's this thing called homework (BLEH) which takes up some of MY time with her. That and mom's still working part time to keep me and the others fed (Like she should, I am after all a Dashing Prince) I mean I do have Mindy-Kitty to keep me company but sometimes/most of the time she doesn't want to hang out.
And the scaley ones? They hang out in their glass kennels in a room that is closed off from me. I think its cause mom doesn't want Mindy to knock over their heat lamp, silly Mindy.
I repeat, Bleh.

Your Looking at a Graduate!

Your looking at a proud graduate! A good looking one at that. I don't need dresses and makeup to look this good folks! I past my first training course and got to meet and know a few dogs over the past few weeks too! And I didn't bite a single one. As Mom would say, REJOICE!

I got to bark at them a whole lot..... But Anyways! I got to be friends with Sissy, a smooth hair dachshund too. Excitement! Her mommy had better tasting treats then my mom did though. Mom says thats because she gives me healthy treats, of all the nerve.....Those bacon thingies that Sissy got where gooood.

Anywho, it was great and I had a lot of fun and can't wait for the next level training course in a few weeks.
